The smell of smoke woke Xander from his peaceful slumber. Bells began to ring loudly in what he could only assume was a warning of sorts. He clambered out of his bed in a rush, and in doing so knocked over his cell phone that happened to be on his night stand. He was thankful that the floor was carpet and it was only about two feet from the nightstand to the floor. He heard the shouts of men apparently fighting an unknown enemy. Cries for help and desperation soon fill the air as X slides the door to his room open. He looked in horror as one of the towers on the other side of the pond that happened to be in front of his room was set ablaze. Men with buckets of water tried desperately to fight the blaze. X looked around for his uncle who didn’t appear to be anywhere in sight. He rushed to action as he towards the burning tower. He found one of the members of the High Council who was covered in ash. He coughed roughly from what X could only assume as smoke inhalation. He took the Council member and brought him closer to the pond and further away from the tower.
X: Master Rhett, what has happened?
The older man looked at X with horrified eyes. X tried to push for an answer, but none would come. He told the council member to stay where he was while X tried to help where he could. Amongst the screams and orders being shouted, Xander had little concern. For some reason he felt he had seen this scenario before. Suddenly it came to him. He looked around for the one man he knew he could talk to, but there was still no sign of his uncle anywhere. He found low ranking warrior or the clan and pulled him away from the chaos.
X: Find Alec Cruise! Find my uncle!
Warrior: But Master X...
X: Don’t give me any lip! Find him now; I need to speak with him right away.
He grabbed the young man by the shirt and tossed him away to go in search for his uncle. Xander began the arduous task of throwing water on the flames once more. A voice in the back of his mind was telling him to walk into the burning building. He did what he could to shake the feeling away so he could focus. As he did so someone began shouting incoherently. At first it seemed like he was just screaming in horror. But as soon as the man ran out of the building Xander was able to hear him a lot better. Xander didn’t hesitate as he ran headlong into the burning building. He had to find his uncle and the elder he was sure to be with. The smoke was making it very difficult for him to see, he tried calling out their names but was cut short when smoke entered his lungs.
X doubled over with pain. He coughed harshly in the vein attempt of releasing the smoke he was holding in his lungs. His vision became blurred at this point. He had traversed so far up the building, trying his hardest to reach the top. Once the last of the smoke had left his mouth he called out for his uncle. There was no response. He then calls for the elder known as Roshi. That wasn’t his actual name, but it was a nickname he had picked up from his students long ago and it just happened to stick. Dragonball and Dragonball Z was the craze at the time. Most of the elders here had nicknames after Dragonball characters. Xander never understood it really. He enjoyed the show as a child himself, but he just found it petty. He called for Roshi once more. An almost mangled voice came from down the hallway. Xander had a hard time finding the source of the cough. He smoke and flames cascaded throughout the entire hallway. X wrapped a cloak he found on the floor that had yet to be touched by fire and pulled it around him. He knew it wasn’t going to truly protect him, but to just have that feeling of security felt good to him.
Roshi: Over... Here!
X just saw the outline of the elder and rushed to his aid. What he saw next totally caught him by surprise. His uncle lay in the laps of Roshi, a rather large wound in his side bled profusely. X wasn’t sure what to do as he hesitated and stared in wonder as he witnessed uncle in pain.
X: Who did this? I know this isn’t a simple wound, this was forced upon you.
Alec just looked up at his nephew, coughed up some blood and looked further down the hallway. There stood a man clad in complete black, a mask covering his facial appearance. X didn’t need to think about it as he looked at the man that once represented his father. Flames licked close to X’s face, it didn’t deter him from his focus. He stared intently at his father with eyes that could kill. X acted quickly as he rolled forward before leaping towards the man. With a simple sidestep the man smacked X on the back of the head as if he was playing with him. X cried out in anger as he charged his father once more only for his father to counter, grabbing X by the neck. Christopher was able to slam X’s face into a wall before he disappeared. X got up quick enough catch a last glimpse of his father. His face bloodied he hurried back to the side of his uncle.
X: Can you walk?
X asked the elder, who only nodded in response. X nodded back as he picked up his uncle, very much to his discomfort. Both X and Roshi were able to escape the building before it crumbled to the ground. Not a dry eye could be seen as all who were in the vicinity looked on in horror as their oldest citadel had been destroyed at the hands of a man they brought up as their own. X was angry as he brought his uncle to the medical centre. He looked down at his uncle who didn’t seem to be in too good of shape. Just as X was about to leave to see what could be salvaged his uncle grabbed him in a vice like grip. X turned around in complete shock.
Alec Cruise: Find Rhett and Roshi. Tell them it’s time for you to fully join the clan. Tell them that I say you are prepared to don the mask.
X only nodded as Alec let him go and he ran off. X wasn’t sure what was about to happen, but the stinging of the tears in his eyes told him that it was necessary.
